After reading an article on social media about Charlie Hebdo, the French satirical magazine, I started thinking more about Charlie Hebdo’s depictions of anti-religious themes as well as the worldwide support of the magazine.
I agree that the murders at the magazine were tragic; everyone has the right to free speech and this right should be defended. In spite of this, the magazine’s cartoons are plainly disrespectful and this should be taken into consideration.
Everyone has the right to their religious beliefs. However, the magazine’s cartoons does not excuse the actions of the murderers or anyone else who seeks to harm others because of these religious differences.
Religion is often a sensitive topic. People may not agree with others’ point of view, but everyone’s opinions should be regarded. Opposing views can open the door to dialogue that would lessen conflicts.
